Hosting tips: Christmas at Manpriya’s Table

As Christmas sneaks up on us, Founder Manpriya tells us how she hosts with heart, style, and silver linings.

What’s your most magical Christmas memory?
Experiencing Christmas the British way for the first time at 38. Two kids, a new home in London, a real tree dripping with handpicked ornaments, and the ritual of milk and cookies left out for Santa and his reindeer. Waking up early to the squeals of kids unwrapping presents—pure magic.

What are your showstopper dishes that always leave guests raving?
I kick things off with crispy potato croquettes, mini samosas, and melt-in-your-mouth shammi kebabs, paired with our house-special martini. Lychee, rose, or whatever my husband’s latest creation might be—he’s always inventing something delicious.

For mains, Indian cuisine reigns supreme in my home. My family’s culinary roots run deep—from my grandmother’s legendary Delhi kitchen to my father opening the first Indian restaurant in Holland. Our Punjabi flavors shine brightest with mint rotis (pudina paratha), rich butter chicken, and velvety black dal.

Dessert is my grand finale. My notorious sweet tooth demands options: decadent dark chocolate cake with coconut sorbet, chestnut panettone, rose-and-cardamom crème caramels, and of course, festive mini mince pies (yes, I buy those ready-made—because why not?).

Got a signature cocktail to keep the Christmas spirits high?
My husband’s rose martini, without a doubt. He perfected it during lockdown, and it’s been a hit ever since—delicate, floral, and perfectly balanced. Friends can’t stop raving about it.

What’s your ultimate hosting tradition at Christmas?
Family portraits by the fire, rose martinis in hand, and a warm, relaxed atmosphere. Hosting isn’t about perfection; it’s about creating a moment of togetherness.

One piece of golden advice for a first-time holiday host?
Prep ahead, embrace ready-made shortcuts, and don’t shoulder everything alone—let guests contribute. Set your table in advance, scatter flowers, and plenty of candles. And remember, no one wants to smell the kitchen while sipping their martini.

How do you turn your home into the coziest, most festive wonderland?
Candles everywhere, coloured glass accents, and tablescapes that tell a story. I steer clear of cookie-cutter setups—a table should reflect your travels, memories, and unique style.

What’s your festive tableware vibe?
Silver, silver, and more silver—with hints of red, velvet, and lace doilies. I love mixing textures, ribbons, and bows for a layered, luxurious feel.

What’s the decoration or centerpiece that’s the star of your show?
My collection of vintage Buccellati silver crabs. They open up to reveal chocolate-covered coffee beans—a little surprise and a lot of charm.

What’s your time-saving, stress-busting hosting hack?
Prep, prep, prep. And most importantly, don’t aim for perfection—aim for joy.
